Know Your Stylist

Jonty Briggs (BSc HONS Canine Training and Performance)

City and Guild Qualified Dog Groomer

College Years

Before entering the dog styling world, I was undertaking a motor vehicle apprenticeship with Volvo/Mazda. After a year in the trade, I struggled to gain any satisfaction from my work and took the step to undertake an Animal Management and Welfare course at Abingdon and Witney College (Common Leys Farm Campus) in September 2018 for three years. I acheived distinction level grades for all three years of my stay.

I knew that I wanted to fuflill a career in the canine world and so began to learn the fundamentals of dog grooming and breed standards.

Continued Learning Application

My development and learning has continued to expand by attending seminars and events to communicate and synthesise knowledge with others in the industry.

My first aid training was successfuly completed by Dr Sophie Bell who instructed me on canine anatomy, emergency procedures, bandaging techniques and other theory into practise modules to a high standard.

A rare opportunity also occured when Master Groomer, Jennifer Bishop Jenkins MA, ICMG, PGC, hosted an event at Writtle Univeristy subject to her brilliant scientific undertanding of the 15 coat types. This broadened my learning greatly and streamlined my views on styling equipment, products and proccesses.

I also try to attend Premier Groom events when i can to observe others in the industry and keep up to date with the latest developments.

Hartpury University

Whilst continuing to develop my canine styling knowledge, I undertook a Canine Training and Performance Degree at Hartpury University. I was taught under Dr Evangelos Diamantakos, a clinical animal behavioursit who passed on brilliant knowledge and skills surrounding canine welfare, behaviour, nutrition, biology and training proccesses.

Throughout my time at Harptury I became involved in business expertise and small business startup projects, focusing on pitching new ideas to business men and women who were invited to campus. From there, I was able to lay the foundations for my career path and acquire the backing from my mentor, Russell.

I completed my City and Guild dog grooming qualifacations alongside my studies at Hartpury’s pet styling salon.

In November 2024, I graduated with my degree in BSc (HONS) Canine Training and Performance.
